Registration now open for 2018 Grad Cup

The ChE GSA will be sponsoring a team for Grad Cup. Grad Cup is a fun day of outdoor games and food where graduate students compete against other departments for prizes.

Grad Cup will be held April 14 from 9 am to 6 pm. The deadline to register is April 1.

If you are interested, please fill out the following two forms:

1) ChE GSA Registration Form
2) GPSA Registration Form – Put “Chemical Engineering” when asked for a “Team Name.”

IM co-rec soccer team plays second round playoff game at 9:30pm tonight

The ChE GSA intramural co-rec soccer team will play a playoff game tonight at 9:30pm. The game will be held at the Park Avenue Intramural Fields.

If you have not played in a game this season, you unfortunately cannot play on the team during their playoff run.

The team went 1-1-1 during the regular season, good enough to finish in the top two in their division to qualify for the playoffs. A 3-0 win on September 28 advanced them to play tonight.

Come out and support the team!

ChE Department 5k to be held on April 8 at Circleville Park

The Chemical Engineering Department Spring 5k will be held on Saturday, April 8 at Circleville Park. The race starts at 9am. The ChE 5k is being run in conjunction with the “Bunny Hop 5K” to support the Four Diamonds Fund, an organization that raises money for pediatric cancer research.

To fully register for the 5k, please do both of the following steps:

1) Register through the ChE Department.

Email Mike Janik (mjanik@psu.edu) to let him know you will be participating. In your email, also let him know if you need help getting to the race. Carpools will be arranged for those that need them.

2) Register through the Bunny Hop 5k.

  • If you read this before Thursday March 23, go to the Bunny Hop 5k website and register for the race online. The registration fee not only helps support the Four Diamonds Fund, but also includes a T-shirt.

When filling out the online registration, when asked “how did you hear about the 5k”, you are encouraged to respond “Megan Petrine”. Megan is a National Honor Society member at State College High School, and the daughter of Lisa Petrine in our department main office. Megan gets community service credits if you include her name.

  • If you read this on or after Thursday, March 23 you can register for the race from 8am to 9am on the day of the race. Again, the registration fee not only helps support the Four Diamonds Fund, but also includes a T-shirt.

Grad Cup to be held on April 8, sign-ups open until March 23

Grad Cup, an annual field day for graduate students and friends of graduate students, will be held on Saturday, April 8 at the Park Ave Intramural Fields. This is an all-day event, running from 9am to 4:30pm. Schedules and t-shirts will be distributed at 9am at Grad Cup on April 8, with events starting at 9:30am.

Some of the events that are held during Grad Cup include an obstacle course, wiggle toss, tic-tac-toe relay, and spoon races. You can check out some of the photos from last year’s event on the ChE GSA website.

Grad Cup costs $10 per person, which gets you a T-shirt and lunch. There are lunch options available for those with dietary restrictions.

Pinguinos finish IM soccer season

The ChE GSA IM soccer team, Pinguinos Voladores, finished the IM soccer season last night with a 4-2 loss. While the team was able to get within a goal twice (2-1 and 3-2), an equalizing goal was not to be had. The team finishes with a 1-2-2 record. The team last night consisted of Tonnam Balankura, Dan Cetnar, Tyler Culp, Mel Hainey, Michael Regula, and James Sheehan.

Pinguinos lose 2-0 in IM soccer

Pinguinos Volardores lost 2 -0 in an IM soccer match last night against Purps. The match was scoreless at the half, but Purps scored midway through the second half, forcing Pinguinos to bring more players forward to find the tying goal. Unfortunately, this left Pinguinos susceptible on defense, and Purps added another goal late in the match. Pinguinos is now 0-1-1 on the season. The roster for the Pinguinos last night included Jwala Adhikari, Tonnam Balanhura, Dan Cetnar, Tyler Culp, Mel Hainey, Josh Litofsky, Dan Marple, Michael Regula, James Sheehan, and Zach Tischendorf.

Pingunios draw in first IM soccer match

The ChE GSA IM soccer team, Pinguinos Voladores, played Tropic Thunder to a 0 – 0 draw Tuesday night. Both teams had opportunities to break the stalemate, including a 1 on 1 breakaway for the Pinguinos that was turned aside by Tropic Thunder’s goalie and a shot from Tropic Thunder with about 3 minutes to play that hit the post and ran along the goal line before being saved. The roster for the Pinguinos included Jwala Adhikari, Tonnam Balanhura, Dan Cetnar, Dan Marple, Michael Regula, James Sheehan, and Zach Tischendorf.

Sign-up for the ChE Grad Cup team

The GPSA is hosting the 4th annual Grad Cup on Saturday, April 23, 9 am – 4 pm in the IM Fields. Grad Cup is like a field day for graduate students, where departments and graduate organizations compete in events such as an obstacle course, 3-legged race, disc golf, and more.

If you would like to sign-up for the ChE team, fill out this Google form by 10 am on Wednesday, March 16. The cost is $7 per team member, which covers the cost of lunch and a T-shirt. Money will be collected in Fenske this week and next week.

Pinguinos fall in semifinals of IM co-rec volleyball playoffs

The ChE GSA IM co-rec volleyball team, Pinguinos Voladores, lost in the semifinals of the playoffs last night 2 – 0, ending their season. The Pinguinos won 7 of their 8 matches this year, while taking 18 of the 21 games they played. Last night’s team consisted of Daniel Cetnar, Tyler Culp, Megan Farell, Jon Harcourt, Dan Marple, Michael Regula, and Julie Weitzman.

Pinguinos advance to IM co-rec volleyball semifinals

The ChE GSA IM co-rec volleyball team, Pinguinos Voladores, advanced to the semifinals of the single elimination tournament, winning both their games Thursday night 2 -0. Thursday night’s team consisted of Brosi Bradley, Megan Farell, Jon Harcourt, Dan Marple, Michael Regula, and Julie Weitzman.

The semifinals are currently scheduled for Monday, February 29 at 7:15 pm, but this time and date has not been confirmed due to scheduling conflicts.
