New College of Engineering dean Justin Schwartz will be visiting the chemical engineering department on Wednesday, October 18.
Graduate students and post-docs are invited to participate in a poster session in Greenberg from 11:15am – 12:45pm. Every chemical engineering research group is strongly encouraged to have at least one poster on display and a representative to discuss the work. Easels and poster board will be provided.
Lunch will be available at the poster session.
The ChE GSA intramural co-rec soccer team will play a playoff game tonight at 9:30pm. The game will be held at the Park Avenue Intramural Fields.
If you have not played in a game this season, you unfortunately cannot play on the team during their playoff run.
The team went 1-1-1 during the regular season, good enough to finish in the top two in their division to qualify for the playoffs. A 3-0 win on September 28 advanced them to play tonight.
Come out and support the team!
The Graduate and Professional Student Association will held a “Meet the Delegates” town hall meeting in 134 HUB on Wednesday, September 20. The town hall will run from 10am to 1pm. Coffee and snacks will be provided.

Adobe Creative Cloud is now available to all Penn State students and faculty members for free. The Creative Cloud consists of the following Adobe products: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Adobe Stock, Illustrator Draw, and Typekit.

Jay Keasling, a professor of chemical engineering and bioengineering at the University of California, Berkeley, will present at the third annual Chemical Engineering Distinguished Lecture. The lecture will be held on Wednesday, September 20 at 4:30pm in the Berg Auditorium (100 Life Science Building).

The Materials Research Institute at Penn State is hosting the Safety Olympics on Tuesday, September 12, 12:00pm – 2:00pm during their “Safety Days of September” events. Teams can consist of 2-4 people. Registration is limited to one team per faculty PI and three teams per department.
Prizes include a Penn State football signed by head coach James Franklin, movie tickets, giftcards to Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Green Bowl, Sheetz, Irving’s, and Amazon, and much more.

In addition to the Safety Olympics, Safety Days will host two guest safety speakers, Dr. Kimy Yueng (Dow Analytical Sciences) and Dan Vaughn (Corning Inc.). Yueng will speak before the Safety Olympics, 10:00pm – 11:00pm, in the 3rd Floor Commons of the Millennium Science Complex, while Vaughn will present on Thursday, September 14, 12:05pm – 1:05pm in rooom 101 Thomas Building.

The College of Engineering and the University Fellowships Office are hosting information sessions on applying for an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. Each session will feature a panel that includes a previously successful NSF GRFP applicant and a CoE faculty member. The meeting will outline general application requirements and describe specific qualities of successful applications.

The 3rd annual ChE Bald Eagle State Park trip will be held on Saturday, August 19. Lunch will be provided by the ChE GSA and will feature smoked Texas Brisket and a variety of vegetarian options and sides. If you are able to come, please fill out this Google Form by Thursday, August 17.
We will leave the Greenberg parking lot at 11 AM and return around 5 PM.
The ChE GSA will be hosting a summer picnic on Friday, June 2 at 4:30pm. The picnic will be held at the pavilions on the corner of University Dr. and Park Ave near the softball park. In addition to celebrating the accomplishments from the past year, the department is also welcoming this year’s REU students.
This will be a rain or shine event.
All dietary restrictions will be accommodated. It would be helpful to give me a heads up if you have such restrictions so that we can plan to accommodate you.
