Pinguinos advance to IM co-rec volleyball semifinals

The ChE GSA IM co-rec volleyball team, Pinguinos Voladores, advanced to the semifinals of the single elimination tournament, winning both their games Thursday night 2 -0. Thursday night’s team consisted of Brosi Bradley, Megan Farell, Jon Harcourt, Dan Marple, Michael Regula, and Julie Weitzman.

The semifinals are currently scheduled for Monday, February 29 at 7:15 pm, but this time and date has not been confirmed due to scheduling conflicts. IM Co-rec Volleyball: Pinguinos win division, move on to playoffs

The ChE GSA IM co-rec volleyball team, Pinguinos Voladores, won their division on Tuesday night with a 3 – 0 win over Alpha Kappa Psi, advancing to the single elimination playoffs. Pinguinos finishes the regular season having won 14 out of 15 games. Tuesday night’s team consisted of Brosi Bradley, Dan Cetnar, Megan Farell, Jon Harcourt, Dan Marple, Michael Regula, and Julie Weitzman.

The Pinguinos first playoff game is on Thursday, February 25 at 7:15 pm in the IM Building (Gym 4, Court 2). The complete bracket can be found on the IM sports website.

Time set for graduate student meeting with Scott Fogler

ChE graduate students will have the opportunity to meet with Dr. Scott Fogler before he gives his seminar on Thursday, March 3. The meeting will be held in 101 Fenske Laboratory from 10:30 am to 11:15 am. Dr. Fogler’s seminar will follow from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm in 102 Chemistry Building. The meeting is an opportunity for graduate students to converse with Dr. Fogler about his research and experiences.

Pinguinos continue to roll through IM volleyball season, now 4-0

The ChE GSA IM co-rec volleyball team, Pinguinos Voladores, continued its winning ways Tuesday night, winning 3 – 0. Overall, Pinguinos has a game record of 11 – 1, putting them in position to make the playoffs. The team consisted of Brosi Bradley, Tyler Culp, Megan Farell, Jon Harcourt, Dan Marple, Michael Regula, and Julie Weitzman.

The last game of regular season is next Tuesday, February 23 at 8 pm in Gym 4 of the IM Building. The full schedule can be found on the IM website.

Third faculty candidate seminar announced

The ChE department announced a third faculty candidate seminar. Shengchang Tang, a graduate student at MIT, will present a seminar titled “Dynamics and Mechanics of Associating Polymer Networks.” The seminar will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 11:30 am – 12:30 pm in 102 Chemistry Building.

Welcome to the 2016 prospective ChE graduate students

The ChE GSA welcomes 33 prospective students to Penn State this weekend for graduate recruiting weekend. The open house schedule highlights the exceptional research being done by the ChE department’s faculty members and graduate students, the state-of-the-art facilities available for research, and the professional and social organizations (like the ChE GSA) available both in the ChE department and in State College.

Second faculty candidate seminar announced

The ChE department announced its second faculty candidate seminar of 2016. Nicholas Sandoval, a post-doc in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Delaware, will present a seminar entitled “Expanding the Genone Engineering Toolkit: From Genes to Metagenomes.” The seminar will be held on February 18 in 102 Chemistry Building, 11:30 am – 12:30 pm.
