The Graduate and Professional Student Association (GPSA) is sponsoring a Financial Literacy Seminar on Monday, October 3rd, 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm in 105 Willard Building. This seminar aims to address principles of financial literacy, how to manage personal finances through budgeting, and how to start saving for after graduate school. There will be a two part workshop titled “Drafting Professional Documents” taking place on Tuesday, October 11th and Wednesday, October 12th from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Location will be announced shortly. Part I will focus on writing resumes and cover letters, and Part II will detail how to write CVs and personal statements. These workshops are geared toward both students interested in academic and non-academic jobs and are recommended for graduate students of all background.

Faculty candidate, Danielle Reifsnyder Hickey, postdoc, in Department of Chemical Engineering & Materials Science, of the University of Minnesota, will be presenting her seminar on Tuesday, September 27th in 102 Chemistry at 10:50 am. The title of her presentation is “Atomic-resolution study of nanostructured materials using analytical transmission electron microscopy”.

The Coalition of Graduate Employees is hosting a Labor Day Picnic for everyone that works at Penn State on September 5th from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm on the Old Main Lawn. Sandwiches, sides, and desserts will be provided. Please RSVP by emailing gtas.psu@gmail.com if you plan on attending.

The Graduate and Professional Student Association is hosting a picnic to welcome everyone back to Penn State on Friday, September 9th from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Sunset Park. Pizza and drinks will be served. There will be plenty of outdoor activities, such as kickball and volleyball. Come out for some food, fun, and the company of graduate students from all departments.

The Materials Safety Olympics will be held on Thursday, September 8. Registration can be found on the MRI website. More information about the event can be found in the flyer below.
